Captive Ink Media to Develop 10 South Carolina Authors in 2017

Greenville, SC – January 4 2017 – Captive Ink Media has announced it will develop 10 new authors from the Upstate this year.  According to Director of Marketing AnnaMarie Hodges-Cantrell, “the Upstate is ripe with exceptional storytellers and more South Carolinians need to make their mark on the publishing world.”

Hodges-Cantrell believes that 2017 will be another year friendly to new authors.  “2016 was the best year for independent authors since 2010 and 2017 is trending the same way,” says Hodges-Cantrell.

While more than 80 percent of Americans believe there is a book to be written inside of them, the chance of being picked up by a large traditional publisher is slim. That does not mean that authorship is out of reach according to Hodges-Cantrell.  “Independent authors are continuing to carve their place in the publishing world.”  She cites a recent Author Earnings report that showed from 2014 to 2016 twice as many independent authors who released their works over the past five years are making a six figure income than those from a large publisher during the same period.

“While competition has increased among Indies, there is still ample room for some great writers,” said Hodges-Cantrell, “especially in niche markets which can be lucrative.” She says they are seeking authors with a unique view in a variety of genres. “It really comes down to authenticity, perspective and tenacity.”

Captive Ink Media has worked with clients in all walks of life, including third-tier presidential candidates, motion picture companies and political pundits, which Hodges-Cantrell says have all been on a national level and not centered in the Carolinas. “We want to focus on the rich pool of talent we have here in the Upstate,” she says.
